Tasty Tidbits 1

For my 200th post to Cuisine Quotidienne, I'm starting a new idea: Tasty Tidbits.

Lately I have enjoyed participating in Wordless Wednesday, which seems to be one of the many weekly blogging events out there -- albeit a very loosely formed one.

My idea for "Tasty Tidbits" is to push myself to make a short post to CQ once a week or so in a addition to my usual, longer posts.

The best thing about my little concept is that I can post under the category whenever. I resisted the temptation to call it "Tasty Tidbit Tuesday," which would have been oh-so-clever, but obviously limiting.

So for today, a little guessing game -- it's been a long time!

What is the dish above?

Hints: it's not exactly a French classic, although it is typically French, and the recipe comes from this cookbook.

At first glance and if it wasn't sitting so low in the dish I would be tempted to say "soufflé".
At CLOSER range... let's see... Cheese of top... It could be a "hachis parmentier" - cottage or shepherds pie.

Well, I was thinking of ordering this great cookbook, but then realized it was all in French. I have only taken french for 3 years (1 day a week) in America, so I'm nervous that I'll get it and not be able to understand it - but then again, it might be good for me. I will guess that this is some type of souffle' (sorry, my keyboard doesn't have the right ')? Can't wait to hear what this is.....

Actually, alisa, as I said on the post about the book it, it seems to me this cookbook was available in English before. I didn't find it in my quick researches this time -- but need to take another look. This may be the subject of a future post.

Betty - after some thinking I am going to order this book in French. I love to cook and bake (do it everyday) and love to make new dishes. 3 years of French should allow me to figure things out! And it would be a great way to learn more. IF I have questions I can always take it to my teacher. So, I'm going to order it today - IN FRENCH! I couldn't find it in English - which is better anyway.

Betty - I haven't bought it yet...but when I click on your link I only get 2 copies available. One comes from France it said it could take up to 12 weeks to get it. The other is in the US but it's 70.00 (says it's a collector edition). On amazon.com I can get the older version, put a link up to that and I'll buy it from you! Not sure if you saw on my blog about our trip to the Aveyron region, but we had the most fantastic time. We stayed in the most beautiful restored barn, only visted ST. A 3 times but fell in love with the village, although heard from an artist that lived there for 5 years that the down basically shuts down from November - April.....

I would like to guess "Gratin Dauphinois". But the only drawback I have to that is your bowl. Humm...

I like your "tasty tidbits" idea!
Fun!

Alisa, the link I have is the only one I'm getting on the Amazon Associates program -- where I'm a total newbie? It's around $50.00, which I know is pricey. So of course grab it at a lower price if you can find it! I'm not sure they make all of their products available for site ads...

No one is really even that close.

You have some of the ingredients right, but you are nowhere near the recipe.

That's why you need to buy Françoise Bernard's book!

It looks like omelette to me. But I'm no cook - let alone a French cook - so I wouldn't take any notice if I were you!

Well, I am completely stumped, even after doing a bit of research. It looks like a cheese and eggy something, but I don't know what. I'll look forward to finding out! Nice idea; I love guessing games. ;)
